"A BOOK FOR EVERYONE"
This book was wonderful. I recommend this book for singles as well as married couples. I also suggest that men and women read this book. I learned a lot about the order of marriage through the Word that Bishop Long focused on in this book. I enjoyed the fact that Bishop Long's book was totally scripture-based. It's not too late for anyone to start their marriage or relationship on the right foot.

A book for the Godly Relationships we all want...
This book is great. It has helped my relationship and I have my fiancee reading it. I have recommended to many of my friends. I am ordering right now for them. It tells men and women to step to the forefront and be what we are called to be men and women of Christ. It makes the person reading feel as though Bishop Eddie Long is talking directly to them. It is a Book for the Ages. Those getting married, I recommend and for the SINGLE person please read.

Invocations: Calling Forth the Light That Heals

Peaceful moments in a difficult day
I have always used prayer to center me and bring me closer to God, however, using Invocations as my guide, I find myself much more peacful. I am caring for many people, including a terminally ill mother, a demented 96 year old grandmother, a 4 1/2 year old free spirit, and a husband and home business...I carry my new favorite book everywhere, carefully marked in my favorite places for quick help. I have read "everything" and nothing has helped me find peace so quickly and completely, in the moments I need it most.

Invocations: Calling Forth the Light That Heals
This is the type of book that becomes a staple on one's journey--the sort of dog-eared, much loved volume kept close at hand on the nightstand. Jacob's words articulate feelings and emotions in a way that gives universal comfort on a cellular level. I am particularly fond of his grace at keeping his prayers non-denominational and therefore accessible to all. Prayers have never sounded so poetic and expressed so much!

A PRAYER ANSWERED
Jacob's book is one of the best tools I have found for deepening my prayer life and exploring that beautiful yet oh-so illusive connection with the divine. "Invocations" is a must read for all "A Course in Miracles" students and for anyone who really wants to develop a meaningful prayer life.

Just Give Me Jesus :
Published in Paperback by W Publishing Group (08 February, 2002)
Author: Anne Graham Lotz

When the Wine Runs Out
Among the many excellent analogies Mrs. Lotz draws from John's Gospel, I especially appreciated the life lessons drawn from Christ's first miracle -- turning water into wine at a marriage feast. Just as the wine at that feast disappeared glass by glass, so does love and zest for living quietly slip away in our own lives. Jesus Christ continues to work miracles in our day when we ask him to replace the "wine" in our own lives and refill us with joy and love. Mrs. Lotz is a master as seeing these valuable "life lessons" in every chapter of the book of John, on which her latest book, "Just Give Me Jesus," was based.

Discover Who Jesus Really Is !
This is a great book for Christians and non-Christians! I finished it and immediately started it again. Ms. Lotz uses the Gospel of John to help us gain insights about Jesus. The book really convicted me to establish a daily time of prayer, study and meditation with Jesus. It is clear Ms. Lotz is a very gifted Bible teacher! God Bless Her

Absolute Spiritual Feast!!!!!
Through her gift of teaching, Anne Graham Lotz has helped me know the Lord Jesus Christ in a deeper way.

Her book, Just Give Me Jesus, helps to understand the writings of the Gospel of John. I did not want the book to end, however when it did end, I read John's Gospel with newly opened eyes. This book was an absolute spiritual feast which was happily devoured by this hungry christian.

This book is highly recommended and I look forward to other writings from Anne.

The Last Guardian: Called by God. Targeted by Darkness. Destined to Lead.

Wow
Although this might be passed off by people who think that it is just another writing from the "christian" introverts that don't know what it is like in the "real world", it would be their mistake. Yes, this it a christian book, but it is also an enthralling story. From the Vivid descriptions one the very first page to the ending, it grabs you in to its complex and dark plot. It is more on the lines of a Secular fantasy than it is a Christian "happy tale". Its plot is dark and at points may be disturbing to those that are the feint of heart. I Got this book on a monday and by tuesday evening, I had finished it. I rarley read a story strait through, but I was so enthralled with the plot that I lost track of time, my mind wandering to the fantasy realm that he told in detail. I enjoyed it so much that i read it again the same week.

If you are looking for a story that will keep you turning the pages, and one that has an equally gripping meaning, read this book.

A great, Christian work of fiction, based upon Truth.
I just finished reading this novel, and I must say I was quite impressed. I can vouch for the author, as anyone that has actually read the book can, concerning the main character. He does not represent Jesus. Read the back cover for the information the author wanted to present to you, and check out some of the excerpts. In The Last Guardian, I must say that Shane Johnson's descriptive talent and vivid imagination was underpinned with a lot of Biblical truth. It made this novel a joy to read. I feel a kinship with him, and was surprised that some of the themes I wrote independently in my own novel were touched on by him. The Biblical concepts weaved into the fictional elements of the story are right on the money, and the fictional elements are well thought out and presented. After reading this book, especially the author's commentary at the end, I am sure that Shane Johnson is a true, Biblical Christian, and I whole-heartedly recommend this book to all Christians. The gory scenes some have mentioned are done in a manner that magnifies the depravity of certain people, and are not overdone, but are there for a reason. This is a powerful, uplifting read that I passionately recommend. 5 stars.

D. Shane Burton, author of Black Storm Rising.

A Must-Read!
The Last Guardian was my first venture into the Christian fiction genre, so I didn't know what to expect. I was very pleasantly surprised by what I read. Shane Johnson is an amazing writer. His imagery is vivid; I could very easily visualize the characters, settings, and situations in the book. Some of the scenes were literally chilling! If movies weren't so often made by committee, I would love to see a filmed version of this novel. I couldn't help but try to read The Last Guardian in one sitting. Johnson does a remarkable job weaving scripture, spirituality, and discovery into a compelling story whose every paragraph compels you to dive into the next. At the same time, the story makes you think. The main character, T. G. Shass, undergoes a spiritual rebirth, and along the way he asks questions that we face ourselves: Who am I? Why am I? What is my purpose? As Shass finds his answers through faith, we come to feel that, if we haven't already found our own answers, we can. I highly recommend The Last Guardian, and I thank Shane Johnson for sharing his talent and inspiration with his readers.

Letters of the Scattered Brotherhood
Published in Paperback by Harper SanFrancisco (November, 1991)
Author: Mary Strong

my personal daily guide to increasing faith
I came across this book that was being discarded by the Quaker meeting I was attending. Since then, I have read one of the letters each morning and evening before my meditations. Sometimes I read the same letter over and over until its meaning penetrates my consciousness. Though I have read this book over 20 times, each reading is fresh, and brings new wisdom and confidence and joy. And it seems to have a magical quality- each reading feels as though it was written specifically for the issues that I am grappling with at that moment. I have always thought of it as my own personal book, given to me through some act of grace. I am so glad to read that others have responded to it in a similiar way. It is truly a great spiritual guide, simple and profound.

If you only own one meditation book, it should be this one.
We came across this book in my father's library after his death, and discovered the source of his serenity and his sage advice for us as we grew. The corners were turned, margins full of notes, passages highlighted and underlined. As I read, I was hearing his comforting words again. You, too will feel the presence of ancestors and hear the wisdom of the ages as you read the passages. And because it was compiled during WWII, the writing gives us perspective on our own troubled times. I have used the "open the book and point" method of meditation with "Letters". It has never failed to address the exact need, answer the unspoken fears, calm the spirit. I have already bought and given away two cases of this book. It is the one gift I know will be there when my friends need support the most.

Next to my Bible, this is my most treasured book.
In this world of hyper-activity and noise, Letters of the Scattered Brotherhood is a call back to Center. It is a friend standing at the gate of the "narrow way", saying with calm confidence: "This is the Way...Walk ye in it." I have entered an entirely new dimension of faith and living because these contemplatives have shared their rich faith and wisdom in this collection of letters. My communion with Christ and fellowship with the Holy Spirit only deepens as I practice contemplative prayer. I will read and reread this book for the rest of my life. It is an unending wellspring of hope, guidance and truth. I will treasure this book always and forever bless the hand and heart of the friend who first gave it to me.

Lion and Lamb/the Relentless Tenderness of Jesus
Published in Paperback by Fleming H Revell Co (September, 1986)
Author: Brennan Manning
Average review score:

His Love...pure and simple
"Our Life in Christ. It's not an easy thing to grasp. Maybe you understand it only by living it. And maybe Augustine was right on the money when he wrote: 'Give me someone who loves and he will understand what I am trying to say. Give me someone whose heart yearns, who feels the nostalgia of loneliness in exile, who is athirst and sighs for the fatherland eternal, give me such a one and he will understand what I am trying to say. But if I must explain myself to ice-cold indifference, he will not understand.'"

The preceding quotation is from Brennan Manning's "Lion and Lamb - the Relentless Tenderness of Jesus." Lion and Lamb is a remarkable book from a remarkable author. My copy is especially remarkable ... it was given to me as a gift by a total stranger...and I am eternally grateful for it.

I had previously read Manning's "The Ragamuffin Gospel," which is a great book in its own right. Yet "Lion and Lamb" holds a special place in my list of all-time favorite books. Few books are as packed with so much deeply freeing food for thought.

"Lion and Lamb" is all about how much Jesus loves us. Brennan uses personal illustrations from his own life and weaves them into tried and true teachings from years past to paint a picture of how much Jesus loves us. One example of how skillfully and movingly Manning extrapolates Biblical truths is found in the following excerpt:

"My brothers and sisters, Jesus is our God. He and the Father are one. He is the image of the invisible God. Our Jesus image makes all the difference. If we let the Lion of Judah run loose as Lord of our lives, He will not want us to be poor, broken, or sad. Yet He may allow it, knowing that in these conditions we are more likely to let Him make us rich, whole, and happy. If you let the real Jesus into your life, the God whose supreme desire is your happiness and fulfillment, you'll want to throw out anything that is going to stop you from reaching His Kingdom. The brutal hyperbole's about plucking out the eye, cutting off the hand or foot, become understandable in this context-and in no other. Jesus' teaching is full of wild exaggerations, for Jesus is a wild man. And He says to us, 'It has pleased My Father to give you the kingdom.'"

Amen. I give this book my absolute highest recommendation. Get a copy today and let the wild man run free in your life.

A Gift of God's Love
I don't know how many copies of this book I have bought over the years. I have given away so many, I cannot begin to count. WARNING! This book will change your life!! It is as radical as Jesus original message was in His time.

Brennan Manning's way of telling the Story of God's Love is warm and personal and yet convicts some of the religious establishment priorities. This book will give you a very real perspective on how much fun and full of love God is. It will give you a sense of peace with what God would have us do.

Get more than one copy, because God will whisper to you to give copies to others.

Transformed! By the Relentless Tenderness of Jesus!
I love the Word of God so much that it is pretty much the extent of my reading. However, the Title of this book caught my heart and I ordered it and devoured it cover to cover in two sittings. Never have I received such healing to my heart through another's writing.... THANK YOU LORD, for Brother Manning and his transparency and the powerful ability to communicate Your Love thru words and Your Holy Spirit! This man has such a grasp on the GRACE of GOD and is able to convey it! I will read this book again and again until the Relentless Tenderness of JESUS is my very heartbeat and breath - so that others can receive it as well. Thank you, Brennan and may the Lord bless you!

Like Gold Refined (Prairie Legacy, 4)
Published in Paperback by Bethany House (May, 2000)
Author: Janette Oke
Average review score:

Great Companion to the Series
Many fans of Janette Oke have asked her to bring back Clark and Marty Davis and she does so in this series. This series is about their granddaughter Virginia, Belinda's daughter.

Virginia lives on a farm with her husband, Jonathan, and their children. Jonathan works with his brother breeding and raising horses. Lots of changes happen for Virginia in a few short years.

Their daughter, Mindy, was left with them by her mother when she was very young. Mindy knows about her "real" mother because she still has some memories of her. But since she has lived with Virginia and Jonathan she's called them mother and father because they are the only real family she's known.

Mindy hopes her mother will soon come to Christ. She prays for her as often as possible.

Mindy's mother comes for a visit and requests something that Jonathan and Virginia won't agree to.

I really liked this book! I like the Love Comes Softly series better so far but maybe I need to finish this series before I compare them. But I do suggest this series, it does a great job of continuing the story of the Davis Family.

CHERISH THIS BOOK!!
If I could rate this book higher I would!! Janette Oke has long been a favorite author of mine. I have read most all of her books with her "Love Comes Softly" series my all-time favorite. I was thrilled to see her begin a new series with the granddaughter of Clark and Marty. But when I read the first book several years ago, I was less than enthused. Recently I saw this had become "The Praire Legacy" series, so I re-read Book 1 and continued with the series. Once again, these books are heartwarming and should be cherished forever. In "Like Gold Refined" we see Virginia as a young wife and mother coping with life changes ... not always easy. Along with the ups and downs of everyday life comes a bitter and hard-fought custody battle over Mindy, the daughter of Virginia's childhood friend Jenny. Mindy has lived with Virginia and Jonathon since she was a toddler when Jenny leaves her with the young couple. I was gripped by the story and was inspired not only by Virginia's faith through these circumstances but moreso with little Mindy's strong faith to bring her wayward Mama Jenny to the Lord. I experienced so many emotions, from laughing, crying, comfort and anguish. I rejoiced at the conclusion. It is my hope that Janette Oke will continue on with Mindy's story (possibly a new series of books). Thank you for blessing our lives with the story of Clark and Marty and their many offspring.

Oke at her best
Like many of Oke's readers, I have followed the saga of the Davis family in the Love Comes Softly Series and now The Prairie Legacy. Like Gold Refined, the conclusion to the Prairie Legacy series, continues the story of the Davis's grandaughter Virginia. In the first three books of the series, readers saw Virginia mature from a flighty teenager to a caring young wife and mother. In Like Gold Refined, Virginia's path to maturity continues as she has to accept the physical changes in her aging grandparents, Clark and Marty Davis. She does not want them to grow old, to leave their farm, or to change anything in their lives. Her mother Belinda has accepted these changes and makes plans to deal with them, but Virginia wants to hang on to the past, keeping everything the same. When Virginia and her husband Jonathon have to suddenly deal with a court battle over their "unofficially adopted" daughter Mindy, Clark and Marty's problems take a back seat to their own setbacks. Over the ensuing months, Virginia and Jonathon travel to the city, leaving their young family, battle with judges and lawyers, and risk losing their livelihood as they go in to debt to pay legal fees. All the while, Virginia tries to maintain a normal household and keep things the same. Finally, it is Mindy who realizes that changes must be made and she makes the decision herself about where to live. After it is all over, Virginia explains to Mindy that some things are meant to change, and that it is all in God's plan. Through her own journey with Mindy and their problems, Virginia finally realizes and accepts that her grandparents are aging and must leave the farm. If not for the trials that Virginia suffered with Mindy, she would not have come to grips with the fact that even her grandparents' lives must change. Oke has done an excellent job with the two storylines, using one to bring about the resolution of the other. She has also come up with a fitting conclusion to the story of Clark and Marty, and has indeed shown the complete transformation of Virginia from a contented, yet carefree, housewife to a sensible young mother whose trials have formed her into a wise Christian woman, much Like Gold Refined.

God Gave Us You

Amazingly beautiful and moving...
We gave this book to our 8 year old son as a First Communion gift. The book is the moving story about a young bear asking his mom if his parents love him. The story continues as mama bear explains to the young cub how God have given them the miracle of his birth and walks the cub throught the pregnancy, the waiting over the birth of the baby, the first night at home, and so on. Our 8 year old son loves to cuddle at night and listen to the story of a mom and dad who are so thankful to God for the gift of their cub. Beautifully illustrated and written, this book is a gift to share between parents and their children.

What a sweet, sweet story
My husband and I love to read this book to our daughter who is 6 months old (we have read it to her since she was in my belly) It is such a sweet story about a mommy bear and a baby girl bear. The story tells the baby what a blessing she is to her mommy and daddy and how God had given her to them.

Beautiful story!
This book is a beautiful way of explaining where baby comes from without giving an adult answer. The simple message that your child was a gift from God sums it up, and in a sweet story. The illustrations are soothing, and the story is a good bedtime read.

Healing for Damaged Emotions
Published in Paperback by Chariot Victor Books (October, 1981)
Author: David A. Seamands
Average review score:

Why do I act or respond as I do?
David Seamands shares why and how to move beyond crippling emotions. This book gave me the hope to look outward and not inward for healing. Biblical principles with scriptures are abundant to show the way of God, not the way of man. The choice is mine. Do I want God's way and peace or man's way and confusion. This choice is also yours to make.

Except for the Bible, this is the best book I have ever read
God has used this book to wipe away the confusion and frustration that I have endured over many, many years. This book has given me understanding and God has set me free. I can now forgive others and ESPECIALLY myself! I now know the difference between bad theology and true Christian maturity.

If you hate yourself or are muddling through the muck and mire of depression, then let David Seamands show you your TRUE self and the TRUTH about the unconditional love that God has for you.

Very good book. Healing for Damaged Emotions helped me a lot
Healing for Damaged Emotions has really helped me in my spiritual growth. I am still human and I still make mistakes, but I feel that I can cope with them better after reading this book.

I would strongly recommend it to others. David Seamands did a great job, using scriptures to back up what he was saying. Of course I wouldn't put it above the Bible, but I would say that it comes in a close second. I will say that this book with the exception of the Bible really helps me understand the difference between the real me and the super me.

I believe that God led David A. Seamands to write this book, and I also believe that He (God) led me to buy this book.
